Study of managerial competencies of healthcare middle managers as exemplified by heads of anesthesiology and resuscitation departments of multi-speciality hospitals

Abstract

Distinctive feature of current situation in health care is lack of professionally trained, initiative, capable of long-term vision of tasks and methods of their solution personnel. Selection of applicants for healthcare middle managers position – head of resuscitation and anesthesiology departments of multi-speciality hospitals – is a complex task, one of the key topics of which is appointment of the best candidates with study of their business and personal qualities.

Aim of the work was to study managerial competencies of healthcare middle managers as exemplified by heads of anesthesiology and resuscitation departments of multi-speciality hospitals. The study included 156 heads of resuscitation and anesthesiology departments of multi-speciality hospitals (doctors from the reserve to the head position). The study was conducted in form of pedagogical experiment on the basis of Public Health аnd Health Care Department of the Biomedical University of Innovation and Continuing Education of Burnasyan Federal Medical Biophysical Center from January 2015 to January 2017.

Results. Empirical studies have shown that complex of training sessions aimed at the development of managerial competencies and strategies used in their implementation is an effective tool of healthcare middle managers managerial competencies development (head of anesthesiology and resuscitation departments of multi-speciality hospitals). And this training sessions also can be used in practical health care and for heads of other departments. The results of the study allow us to consider development of managerial competence of healthcare middle managers of multi-speciality hospitals as a manageable and effective process. Practical training for heads of anesthesiology and resuscitation departments of multi-speciality hospitals, as well as doctors from the reserve to the the head position, development of managerial competencies and strategies for their implementation as a system lead to development of each type and their integration.
